The Skunk Hollow Trails Mapping & Emergency Trail Marker Project is a safety initiative that establishes a visible and uniquely colored system of markers placed at various intervals along the wooded trails to identify emergency check points for trail users, along with a correlating electronic mapping system. This trail system stretches from The Willows Park, through Skunk Hollow Park, and Saw Mill Park. The system will integrate with local emergency services, enabling dispatchers and first responders to provide a more accurate location of where the caller is on the trails, reducing response times and improving outcomes. *Note integration has not been fully completed.
In addition to enhancing safety and ease of navigation in times of need, the trail markers promote confidence among trail users, encourages greater use of our natural spaces, and supports park management of the trail network.
Each marker is labeled with an identification of color, letter, and number, a reference to call 911 for emergencies, and a QR code to read more about the project and access the digital map. The markers are designed to be highly visible in multiple directions, in all seasons, and weather conditions. Placement is at trailheads, key intersections, and other areas.
The Orange Trail markers have been installed with the remaining trails underway in the coming weeks. *This project is in progress and has not been completed.
