Join the Shade Tree Commission (STC) and the Radnor Conservancy for our seasonal planting events. These are fun, high-energy days where we plant bare-root trees in our public parks and township right-of-ways.

What to Expect: No experience necessary! We provide the shovels, supplies, and guidance. Just bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and a water bottle.

The Radnor Conservancy "Big Tree" ID Program

Help document and protect Radnor’s oldest residents! We work with the Radnor Conservancy’s Big Tree Program to identify and catalog exceptional trees within the township.

• Scavenger Hunts: Participate in our "Big Tree ID" scavenger hunts (like the annual event at Ithan Valley Park) to help us map our heritage canopy.

• Nominate a Tree: If you have a massive or historic tree on your property or in your neighborhood, let them know so it can be added it to the registry.

Become a Certified PHS Tree Tender

Radnor is a proud affiliate of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS). One of the best ways to serve our township is by attending the PHS Tree Tenders® training.

• Expert Training: This 8-hour course covers tree biology, identification, planting, and proper maintenance.

• Your Role: Once certified, you’ll join a network of local leaders who act as advocates and primary stewards for our community’s trees.

• Get Started: Training is offered semi-annually via virtual and in-person sessions.

Canopy Stewardship & Maintenance

Planting the tree is only the first step. We need "Stewardship Volunteers" to help ensure our young trees survive their first critical years.

• Pruning & De-vining: Join the Radnor Conservancy or STC for invasive vine removal days (like those at Skunk Hollow Park) to protect our mature trees from being overtaken.

• Watering Teams: During the summer months, we often look for "Watering Warriors" to help monitor and hydrate newly planted street trees.

Students & Youth Groups

We are committed to educating the next generation of environmental stewards.

• Earth Day Initiatives: We partner with local schools, including Wayne Elementary, for hands-on gardening and planting events.

• Scout Projects: If your troop is looking for a service project, the STC can help coordinate a tree-planting or park cleanup that meets your badge requirements. Click here to contact us
