Meetings

Shade Tree Commission meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month, January to October. The November and December is joined into one meeting which occurs on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  Meetings begin at 6:30pm in the Radnorshire Room of the Township Building, 301 Iven Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087

Meetings are televised on Radnor Cable Channel 5 and Verizon FiOS Channel 30, and can be watched on the Radnor Township YouTube Channel.

Plans for Shade Tree Agendas are required to be submitted no less than ten (10) days prior to the meeting date. Agendas are available prior to the meetings. Minutes are available following approval.

The Shade Tree Commission consists of 6 members, plus 1 representative from the Planning Commission serving 5 year terms. Your Shade Tree Commission members are:

The Radnor Township Shade Tree Commission (STC) is responsible for the protection, preservation, and growth of the township’s tree canopy. The STC reviews tree removals and various construction permits for compliance with the township’s Shade Tree Ordinance. The STC is responsible for a long-term guide for the planting of trees throughout the township. Because of these standards, Radnor has been designated as a Tree City USA community for more than 30 years.

Trees provide ecological, economic, and quality-of-life benefits—they protect our air and water quality, reduce energy costs, mitigate stormwater runoff, increase property values, and beautify our neighborhoods. 

On April 18, 2026 the Radnor STC along with residents and local business volunteers held another successful Spring tree planting at the Willows park.  We also planted 30 right-of-way street trees for Radnor residents to improve the township's canopy and shade coverage.

On June 30, 2025, Radnor Township was awarded a $10,000 grant as part of PECO and Natural Land’s Green Region Open Space Program.  The award supported Radnor’s Bare Root 2025 Fall Planting and the continuing goal of preserving the township’s canopy, providing shade for playgrounds and walking paths, and keeping township parks safe from failing trees.  

A 2024 township assessment of all parks revealed almost 300 trees in need of removal and/or replacement. In late November 2024, 150 bare-root trees were planted along residents' streets and in 2 Radnor Parks specifically The Emlen Tunnell Park at 57 Garrett Road and the Clem Macrone Park at 1400 County Line Road both in Bryn Mawr, PA.

Here's what you should know:

1. Try to select from the Radnor Township Recommended tree species list and avoid species deemed invasive and/or vulnerable to diseases or infestations.

2. Before removing any trees, consult the Radnor Township Tree Ordinance for removal of 6 or more trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 6 inches or greater, for hazardous/dead trees, and for compensatory replacements for >6 trees or removal of a large Heritage Tree (>30" diameter at breast height)

3. Speak with your chosen arborist/tree service service company about compliance with Radnor Township Tree Ordinance before any removals. Confirm with them that they are registered with Radnor Township, which is required.

4. Utilize the Shade Tree Commission Checklist to ensure any required permit/applications are complete and accurate, which should minimize delays.
