Overview

The Shade Tree Commission (STC) is responsible for the protection and preservation of the Township’s tree canopy. The STC reviews subdivision plans and other building applications for compliance with the Township’s Shade Tree Ordinance and for recommending appropriate modifications thereto. The STC is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a Master Shade Tree Plan with a long-term guide for the planting of trees throughout the Township. Thanks in part to the efforts of the STC, Radnor has been designated as a Tree City, USA.

Green Region Open Space Program Grant

On June 30, 2025, Radnor Township was awarded a $10,000 grant as part of PECO and Natural Land’s Green Region Open Space Program.  The award supported Radnor’s Bare Root 2024 Fall Planting and help preserve the township’s canopy, provide shade for playgrounds and walking paths, and keep township parks safe from failing trees.

The project was initiated after a 2024 township assessment of all parks revealed almost 300 trees in need of removal and replacement.  Radnor also has a residential tree program which was initiated in 2020.   The program allows township residents to register to receive a bare root tree installed in the right-of-way in front of their homes

The project was completed in late November 2024 with 150 bare root trees planted in various resident’s right-of-way and in two Radnor Parks, i.e., The Emlen Tunnell Park at 57 Garrett Road, Bryn Mawr, PA and the Clem Macrone Park at 1400 County Line Road, Bryn Mawr, PA.
