Public Works Laborer (TEMPORARY)
Work involves routine, heavy manual labor including the collection and disposal of solid household waste products, newspaper and other recyclable materials on designated routes. Other possible duties include routine, heavy manual labor duties for Highway Department, Parks Maintenance Department and leaf collection duties among other manual labor as assigned. The position reports to the Refuse Department Supervisor and requires the ability to occasionally exercise independent judgment.
Essential Job Duties:
Responsible for a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to refuse collection, construction, repair and maintenance of grounds, equipment and facilities in Township.
Collects household solid waste, recycling materials, leaves and refuse as assigned
Performs related duties as required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions and carry out assignments.
Applicants must have excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact courteously with the public and fellow employees, to understand and follow specific oral instructions, and to learn collection routes.

This is generally moderate to difficult physical work; must be able to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time, must also be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, lift and carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally the lifting of objects up to 100 pounds is required. Ability to use both right and left hands and fingers for grasping, repetitive motions and fine manipulation. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Ability to talk, hear and walk without assistance. Ability to report to work and perform required duties five days a week for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day, and respond to after hour emergencies as required; some evening and weekend work may be required.
Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or GED with one year of experience in related work required. Prefer some mechanical skills.
