[ARCHIVED] Prolonged Excessive Heat Watch with Heavy Rain and Flooding

ExcessiveHeat_July162019_6am_Page_1

NWS Mt. Holly has updated the excessive heat warning to a prolonged Excessive Heat Watch now in effect for the urban corridor around Philadelphia from Wednesday through Sunday. Heavy rain and flooding is also possible Wednesday afternoon and evening and Thursday afternoon and evening.

Please stay healthy and cool during the time. The Radnor Police Department is open for any heat emergencies 24/7 through the next week. Just reach out to 911 if there is a need.

What Has Changed?

  • Heavy rain may result in flooding and flash flooding this afternoon into Thursday. The highest threat for flash flooding will be across eastern Pennsylvania, most of New Jersey, and northern Delmarva.
  • Dangerously hot conditions are possible starting this afternoon and continuing into Sunday. The highest heat index values are expected to occur on Saturday.
  • Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings may need to be expanded and extended as we go through the week.
  • Overnight lows in the urban corridor will be in the 70's to around 80. Consequently, there will be little relief overnight from the dangerously hot conditions.
  • There is a risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with damaging winds being the primary threat.
  • There will be a high risk for dangerous rip currents this afternoon at New Jersey beaches.
  • Further details can be found here: Prolonged Excessive Heat Watch Packet
