Lecture – The Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany
Tuesday, January 15, 2019
Thomas Childers shows how Hitler became passionately political and anti-Semitic as he lived on the margins of society. He blamed Germany’s misery on the allies, the Marxists, the Jews, big business, and their political parties. By 1932 he controlled Germany's largest political party. Although Hitler became chancellor in 1933, his party had never achieved a majority, but within six months he transformed a dysfunctional democracy into a totalitarian state and began the inexorable march to World War II and the Holocaust.
Childers was formerly Professor of History at the UPenn and the recipient of numerous awards. Childers has held visiting professorships at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, Smith College, and Swarthmore College, and has lectured in many universities worldwide. He is the author of several books about modern German history and WW2.
Co-sponsored by Radnor Historical Society & Radnor Memorial Library. Books available at the event, supplied by Main Point Books.
