Crime Statistics
The Township's low crime rate has consistently won it recognition as one of the safest places to live in the Philadelphia Region. The majority of incidences requiring police response in the Township involve motor vehicle violations (20,825 in 2005), unlocked businesses and other nuisance and noncriminal complaints and requests for service (10,125), alarm signals (1,952), motor vehicle accidents (1,352), and animal complaints (584).
The incidence of serious crimes (primarily larcenies, burglaries, assaults, and auto thefts) in the Township decreased by 18% in 2005 - from 504 to 415 incidents. Total secondary offenses (such as vandalism, disorderly conduct, driving under the influence of alcohol, underage drinking, and narcotics possession) increased from 973 to 1,367 incidents.
