Willows Park Preserve

NEW FUTURE FOR THE WILLOWS
Willows Park Preserve Logo

The iconic mansion at the Willows Park has a new lease and life thanks to a spirited group of Radnor residents whose innovative $2.8 million public/private partnership will revitalize and reimagine the building so it remains in perpetuity – the people’s house.   A 10-year lease was signed on June 12, 2018 by Radnor Township providing the Willows Park Preserve with the right to operate the 10,000 square foot mansion, which sits atop the last-remaining expanse of public land in the Township.

The 18-month revitalization project, scheduled to begin in 2019, will transform the former residence into a self-sustaining event hub and nature retreat featuring dynamic, year round programming including food and art events, festivals and shows, live performances and recreation, and nature and environmental programming.  It will be open daily for public use and for limited private events.

Warren Claytor Architects of Wayne, Pennsylvania has been hired to lead the initial phase of the revitalization effort focused on modernizing systems and enhancing functionality while preserving architectural character.   The centerpiece of the project will be the south wing, which will become a bright and relaxed, indoor/outdoor porch-retreat.  With absolutely stunning pond views, it will be the perfect gathering place for residents to share with family and friends daily.  There will be public restroom access and reading materials and table games for visitor enjoyment.

An anonymous donor has contributed $1 million toward the $2.8 million revitalization project and Radnor Township pledged $1,816,660.   The Willows Park Preserve is seeking donations from individuals and businesses to complete the “mansion” improvement plan, which includes several outdoor spaces:  the fountain wall, wishing well courtyard, and patio extension.
